To Paint Is...

So my wonderful son David is turning 16 in a few days. I would love to be able to give him a store certificate or something, but funds are really tight. So I figured I'd work on something that I hope he'll really appreciate... a small painting from my heart to his :)

What do you think so far? I'm painting it from this photograph:
